The Prophet (SAW): “He who increases in knowledge, but not in guidance, increases only in distance from Allah Most High” (Iraqi from Musnad al-Daylami).
The Prophet (SAW): “On the night of my ascension to the heavens, I passed by people whose lips were being cut by pincers from the Hellfire. So I asked, ‘Who are you?’ They replied, ‘We used to order people to do good and not do it ourselves, and advise people against evil, even when we were doing it ourselves’” (Iraqi from Ibn Hibban; similar in Ahmad).
Stop restricting your Islam, stop cutting others from the scope of what defines Islam for you. Remember, The Qur’an says:
اهْدِنَا الصِّرَاطَ الْمُسْتَقِيمَ
It doesn’t say “guide me,” it doesn’t say “guide you,” it says “guide us.”
